Jean-Etienne Liotard’s The chocolate girl pastel, on display in Dresden’s Old Masters Gallery [Gemäldergalerie Alte Meister], inspired the eponymous mid-19th-century Meissen figurine. More than one and a half centuries later, the famous chambermaid is given new life as part of this evening’s costume tour through the Demonstration Workshops and Museum of the Meissen Porcelain Foundation. Throughout the course, participants will be introduced to the history of the pleasurable drinks at MEISSEN, explained through numerous exhibits. A tasting of hot chocolate based on an original 18th-century recipe will round out the tour.
At the end of the evening, a winter-themed three-course dinner will be served on Meissen porcelain at Café Meissen:
Pumpkin and carrot soup with goat cheese bruschetta
***
Braised ox cheek in red wine jus, celery puree and mushroom-pepper vegetables
or vegetarian: zucchini cutlet with celery puree and mushroom-pepper vegetables
***
Meissen Petit Fours with pear compote and salted caramel
